Sanwo-Olu Commissions Fresh Food Hub in Agege, Third in Lagos

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has commissioned a new Fresh Food Hub in Agege, describing the facility as another major step towards strengthening food supply, improving access to fresh produce and ensuring food security across the state.
The Agege Fresh Food Hub is the third of its kind established by the Lagos State Government as part of efforts to modernise food markets and create a more organised and efficient food distribution system.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Governor Sanwo-Olu said no city could achieve meaningful development without paying adequate attention to food security, stressing that food remains fundamental to the survival and productivity of the people.
According to him, the establishment of modern food hubs is part of his administration's commitment to improving the food supply chain, supporting traders and reducing challenges associated with the distribution of agricultural produce.
Sanwo-Olu noted that Lagos, as one of Africa's largest cities, requires a well-organised food distribution network capable of meeting the needs of its growing population.
He said the facility would provide a conducive environment for traders and consumers while contributing to the reduction of congestion and improving hygiene in the handling and sale of food items.
The governor also emphasised the importance of collaboration among the government, farmers, traders and other stakeholders in ensuring sustainable food production and distribution.
He urged traders and users of the facility to take ownership of the project, maintain high standards of hygiene and ensure that the hub continues to serve its intended purpose.
The commissioning of the Agege Fresh Food Hub further demonstrates the Lagos State Government's efforts to develop modern infrastructure that will support economic activities, strengthen food security and improve the livelihood of residents.
The project is expected to benefit residents of Agege and adjoining communities by providing easier access to fresh food while creating opportunities for traders and other participants in the food value chain.
