Culture enthusiasts hold Arugba eve in Osogbo

By Olaide Gold

Culture enthusiasts, traditional worshippers, tourists and lovers of Yoruba heritage gathered in Osogbo on the eve of the annual Arugba procession to celebrate the rich cultural traditions associated with the renowned Osun-Osogbo Festival.

The event, popularly known as Arugba Eve, featured cultural performances, traditional music, drumming, dance displays and exhibitions showcasing the customs and history of the Yoruba people. Participants described the gathering as an opportunity to preserve indigenous heritage while promoting tourism and cultural education.

Speaking at the event, organisers said Arugba Eve serves as a prelude to the grand procession of the Arugba, the votary maid who carries the sacred calabash to the Osun Sacred Grove as part of the annual festival.

They noted that the celebration continues to attract visitors from across Nigeria and beyond, contributing to Osun State's tourism and local economy.
Many attendees praised the peaceful atmosphere and called for sustained efforts to preserve Yoruba cultural values for future generations. The celebration is expected to culminate in the colourful Arugba procession, one of the major highlights of the annual Osun-Osogbo Festival.
