Nigeria's First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Monday paid a one-day official visit to Jigawa State, where she launched the National Community Food Bank Programme and commissioned the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Future Academy as well as the Senator Oluremi Tinubu Clinic.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony in Hadejia, the First Lady said the Food Bank Programme was established under the Renewed Hope Initiative to tackle child malnutrition and improve access to nutritious food for pregnant women, nursing mothers and children under the age of six.
She explained that the initiative would operate through Primary Healthcare Centres across the country, ensuring that vulnerable families receive regular nutritional support before severe malnutrition sets in.
Mrs. Tinubu noted that the programme, which was first launched in Borno State, would be expanded to all six geopolitical zones. She commended state governments, development partners and corporate organisations for supporting the initiative, stressing that all food items distributed under the programme would be locally produced and processed.
The First Lady also commissioned the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Future Academy, a state-of-the-art digital innovation centre equipped with robotics and artificial intelligence laboratories, computer-based training facilities, startup incubation hubs and a 60-bed hostel. She described the academy as a strategic investment in youth empowerment, innovation and Nigeria's digital future.
Also inaugurated was the Senator Oluremi Tinubu Clinic, a modern healthcare facility featuring a dialysis centre, operating theatre, maternity ward, diagnostic laboratories and renewable energy-powered infrastructure to provide quality healthcare services to residents of Jigawa State.
Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, described the projects as transformative investments that would strengthen healthcare delivery, promote digital innovation and improve the welfare of the people.
The event was attended by governors from the North-West, ministers, members of the National Assembly, traditional rulers, development partners and other top government officials.
